What is android emulator

First of all let us know what an android application is made of.  An android application always has an extension as ".apk" this is merely nothing but a collection of files which gets expanded when we install the .apk file in our android phone.

So as we speak our pc is not based on android operating system. it is often made up of windows or mac.so we might need something extra which may build relationship between our computer's operating system and android operating system.
This kind of bridge are commonly named as Emulators. emulators are very helpful in running android apps on pc.
